WHAT ARE EAR, NOSE, AND THROAT CONDITIONS?
Ear, nose, and throat conditions (ENT) are very common, especially among young children, and can often be frustrating for anyone affected. Whether you are suffering from swollen tonsils, ear infections, or sinus pressure. We serve the communities of Frisco Heights, Tanglewood, Paschal, and TCU neighborhoods in finding solutions. At University Urgent Care in Fort Worth, TX, we provide private exam rooms, and timely, personalized care. With the help of our laboratory services and advanced digital x-ray technology, we are able to eliminate suspected causes and discover the root of your ENT discomforts.
Certain ENT illnesses that fall outside the scope of our urgent care services may necessitate referral to an emergency room. If you are experiencing difficulties in breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, or chest pain unrelated to coughing, please call 9-1-1 immediately or seek care at an Emergency facility.

WHAT IS NASAL CONGESTION AND SINUS INFECTION?
Nasal congestion can be both painful and uncomfortable due to the pressure in the sinuses and constant dripping from your nose. The early stages of these symptoms can often be treated at home with over-the-counter sinus medications and plenty of rest.
But there are times when the symptoms don’t clear up, which might be an indication that you need to talk to a doctor about your nasal congestion. Our urgent care offers day, evening, and weekend hours to ensure that you have access to medical professionals at your convenience. Whether you are unable to visit the doctor during daytime hours, or your symptoms worsen after most medical offices are closed, you are always welcome to contact our team for assistance.
Medical Services for Nasal Congestion & Sinus Pain
You shouldn’t hesitate to schedule an exam if your symptoms are persistent or even getting worse with time. We will evaluate your symptoms and provide testing, if necessary, to determine if your nasal congestion has turned into a sinus infection. Our team has experience helping with upper respiratory infections, and we are happy to assist in finding the right treatment so you can find relief.
HOW ARE EAR, NOSE, AND THROAT CONDITIONS TREATED?
Upon arrival to University Urgent Care, our experienced medical team will begin to assess your symptoms and condition. We will have an in-depth discussion about your medical history and current medications, and begin an evaluation to determine how best to begin your treatment. We will examine the ears, nose, and throat for irritation, redness, and drainage. In some situations, we will take throat cultures to be sent to our onsite laboratory. In most circumstances, we will receive culture results in 15 minutes or less, allowing us to quickly diagnose your condition. After determining the cause of your symptoms, we will discuss the best method for treatment.
When Do You Need to Visit an Urgent Care for Nasal Congestion?
Having a head cold doesn’t necessarily mean that you need to talk to a doctor. With proper care at home, the symptoms will usually clear up within a week to ten days. In fact, some people find it’s not worth visiting the doctor for minor symptoms because antibiotics can’t be used for viral infections.
The real concern can occur when you have an upper respiratory infection that turns into a sinus infection. When nasal congestion occurs due to a head cold or allergies, it can cause the sinuses to swell and become inflamed, which affects the way mucus drains out of the sinus cavities. As a result, the conditions create the right environment where germs can grow in the sinuses.
The stagnation of mucus can lead to the development of a bacterial infection, which will increase the pain and discomfort you are experiencing. Your immune system might not be able to fight off the bacteria, resulting in the development of a sinus infection that requires medical treatment.
Pay attention to your symptoms, so you know when it is time to talk to a doctor about your illness. You should visit a local doctor if you experience one or more of the following issues:
- Severe facial pain, especially in the sinus areas (on the sides of the nose and over the eyebrows)
- Symptoms remain for 10 or more days
- Persistent fever for 4+ days
- You feel like you are getting better, then the symptoms worsen again
- A severe headache with the nasal congestion
- Other symptoms that seem concerning or unusual
