At University Urgent Care in Fort Worth, TX, we understand the urgency when you are having difficulty breathing. Our team of experienced care providers are board-certified, and our facility is equipped with an onsite laboratory with digital x-rays to efficiently diagnose the cause of your breathing difficulties. We want to help find a solution as soon as possible. Whether your breathing is affected by asthma, bronchitis, or pneumonia, our staff is experienced and our clinic is equipped to help treat individuals in the Frisco Heights, Tanglewood, Paschal, and TCU neighborhoods with quality care in a timely manner.
Certain breathing issues that fall outside the scope of our urgent care services may necessitate referral to an emergency room. If you are experiencing difficulties in breathing, uncontrolled bleeding, or chest pain unrelated to coughing, please call 9-1-1 immediately or seek care at an Emergency facility.
WHAT ARE SOME COMMON RESPIRATORY ILLNESSES?
There are a number of common respiratory illnesses that can cause difficulty breathing. Our staff is prepared to quickly determine whether your symptoms can be treated in our facility, or whether you will require emergency care. If the latter is determined to be the case, we will assist you in seeking our emergent care. Conditions we are experienced to treat in our facility include:
Asthma – A chronic respiratory disease that flares up on occasion causing tightness in the chest, coughing, and wheezing. Symptoms vary and can be severe and potentially deadly.
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) – A disease most commonly caused by smoking. Symptoms include shortness of breath, coughing, and mucus buildup.
Emphysema – Chronic COPD, also caused by smoking. Symptoms include frequent coughing, trouble breathing, and wheezing.
Bronchitis – An infection of the respiratory system, caused by a virus or toxins. Symptoms vary with severity but include a deep cough, fatigues, wheezing, and congestion of the chest and lungs.
Pneumonia – A severe infection of the lungs, caused by bacteria, virus, or fungus. Symptoms mimic the flu with an excessive and painful cough, shortness of breath, fatigue, and achiness. Often requires admission into the hospital.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I’M experiencing shortness of breath?
Anytime you are struggling to breathe, we recommend you seek treatment. In some situations, your breathing condition could become worse without treatment, leading to severe repercussions. University Urgent Care can provide fast, efficient treatment for your breathing conditions to help you breathe easier, faster.
WHAT ARE TREATMENTS FOR BREATHING difficulty?
At University Urgent Care, it is our goal to see you as promptly as possible, as we understand that breathing difficulty is a serious cause for concern. After being checked in, our staff members will listen to your breathing, assess your symptoms, and determine whether you can be treated in our facility or need emergent care. Should your symptoms warrant care at our facility, we will likely take digital x-rays of your chest, place your on a pulse oximetry monitor, and take blood samples. Our onsite laboratory is equipped to return lab results in a matter of minutes to help determine the best course of medical treatment. These methods or recommendations could include:
- Ventilation
- Oral steroids
- Smoking cessation
- Oxygen therapy
- Antibiotics and/or long-term control medications
- Asthma inhalers
