About Arthritis Pain
Arthritis is a chronic joint condition that affects millions of people every day. Often debilitating in nature, arthritis pain commonly disrupts sleep patterns, decreases mobility, and causes significant disturbances to daily activities. At times, patients may go days or weeks without an arthritis flare-up, but there is no way of knowing just when one may happen. If you’re suffering from arthritis, you understand that your flare-ups have no concern for whether or not your primary care physician is available for an appointment. University Urgent Care in Fort Worth, TX is open seven days a week and serves the Frisco Heights, Texas Christian University, Paschal, and Tanglewood areas with superior care. Our board-certified physicians and on-site laboratory are equipped to help diagnose and treat a number of routine and urgent health conditions, including chronic or severe arthritic pain.
Types of Arthritis
There are a number of different forms of arthritis. As a matter of fact, the term can be applied to more than 100 diseases which can cause muscle aches and bone pain. The pain is typically the result of worn or damaged cartilage. Arthritis pain can attack virtually any joints in the body, but most commonly affects the hands, wrists, knees, ankles, hips, and spine. The most common of the arthritic diseases is osteoarthritis, affecting more than 30 million Americans annually. Osteoarthritis can affect any joint, but occurs most commonly in the knees, hips, lower back, and neck, as well as the small joints of the fingers and the bases of the thumb and big toe. Severe joint pain, the result of arthritis, is most common in adults over 65 years of age but can affect children as well.

Risk Factors for Arthritis
While the root cause of arthritis-related joint pain is still unknown, a number of risk factors have been identified. Age seems to be a predominant factor, as those over 65 in particular are at an increased risk of suffering from arthritis. This is due to the deterioration of cartilage around the joints as we begin to age. For unknown reasons, women are more likely to suffer from arthritis than men. Additionally, overweight individuals are also more likely to suffer from the disease as excess weight on the joints can cause them to wear down more quickly. Last but not least, those who have played sports, or worked a job that required repetitive motions over long periods of time are also common sufferers of arthritis.
What treatment options are available for arthritis pain?
Upon visiting University Urgent Care for your arthritis symptoms, you will likely be examined by one of our board-certified physicians. Following an examination, we will discuss your medical history, current or previous diagnoses, and list your current prescriptions. If needed, we may take blood work to assess in our CLIA/COLA-certified onsite laboratory. Since there is no cure for arthritis, treatments will be focused on pain management. These treatments range from cortisone injections to physical therapy sessions to prescription medications. In addition, our skilled physicians may have a number of suggestions for managing your pain or decreasing their frequency from home. Whether constant arthritic pain is disrupting your sleep or you're simply looking for an arthritis treatment in Fort Worth that allows you to exercise without pain, we can help.
