What are Employee Physicals?

There are many jobs with unique requirements or specialized physical functions that require employee physicals to maintain and improve workforce safety. Some jobs are regulated by government agencies, which require employee physicals upon hiring, as well as annually, to protect the employee and the public. Employee physicals are designed to keep workers safe and healthy on the job.

University Urgent Care in Fort Worth, TX provides many of these regulated employee physicals, making it easy for your business to stay compliant with government regulations. Some of our patients visit our urgent care center because they hold jobs with the Department of Transportation (DOT), Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). We work with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) to stay up-to-date on the latest regulations and requirements.

Some of the employee physicals that our Fort Worth urgent care center provides include:

Who is a candidate for an employee physical?

An employee who can’t physically perform their job can endanger themselves and others. University Urgent Care’s pre-employment and employee physicals help to make sure employees are healthy and able to work efficiently. We provide physicals that help you and your business stay in compliance with federal and state rules and regulations, including DOT physicals, OSHA physicals, FAA physicals, and more.

If an employee experiences a work-related injury, information gathered from an employee physical can help their physician provide faster, more personalized care. When employees have easy access to preventive health screenings and baseline medical health information, they can get an earlier diagnosis and more treatment options with a higher chance of success.

information about employee physicals

Hundreds of thousands of DOT physicals are required and performed in the U.S. each year. Our urgent care location offers DOT physicals and has at least one certified medical examiner (CME) who is registered with the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NRCME) and can perform Department of Transportation (DOT) physicals. Our urgent care center performs hundreds of physicals each year, for both new and existing employees, and everyday citizens.

Employee Physical FAQ

What goes into an employee physical?

Generally, employee physicals will conduct basic tests, checking things like the patient's weight, pulse, blood pressure, and temperature. In some cases, we may also examine their vision, hearing, and reflexes, as well as respiratory and cardiovascular health.

Can you fail an employee physical for being overweight?

This depends on the exact company and occupation you are attempting to work in. Typically, simply being overweight will not cause someone to fail their employee physical. However, if the company can demonstrate that being overweight will prevent you from adequately doing your job, it could disqualify you from the position.

What happens if I fail an employee physical examination?

Unfortunately, failure of an employee physical will often lead to your removal from your current position in the company. However, each business handles this differently — so this should always be discussed with your place of work.
